Express FC set to move to the new Refurbished Nakivubo Stadium

Express FC is in advanced negotiations with the management of Nakivubo Stadium to host their upcoming season games at the newly refurbished venue.

This move will mark the end of an era for the Red Eagles at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku which has been their home since 1991.

Express FC played their first league game at Wankulukuku in January 1991 against the now-defunct Coffee FC, following a move from Nakibubo Stadium.

The shift had been necessitated by the congestion at Nakivubo, which was being shared by five clubs, including KCC and Uganda Airlines.

For the past two seasons, Express FC has been sharing Wankulukuku with their bitter rivals SC Villa, who clinched the league title last season.

In contrast, Express FC struggled, finishing 12th with just 32 points, narrowly avoiding relegation by seven points.

Nakivubo, now named Hamz Stadium, was recently reopened after undergoing full refurbishment by businessman Ham Kiggundu of Ham Enterprises.

Express Vs SC Villa friendly headlined the sporting activities on the day.

It remains to be known if Express has the financial muscle to afford the hefty Nakivubo  rental fees, but a source has told SportsNation that a partnership between Express and Kiggundu has been suggested.
