UCC Fails To Regulate ‘Vulgar Music’ On Social Media Platforms.

It has become a norm especially for the upcoming artists looking for relevancy and a breakthrough in the music industry to compose highly explicit lyrics with an intention to capture the attention of the listeners. This is backed up by X-rated videos that end up going viral on social media platforms especially TikTok that showcase these artists abusing drugs, indecent dressing, moving with gangs among other bad vices.

This is a continuous threat to the young generation that has access to social media, a thing that has corrupted their young minds who always mimic what these artists do in the videos.

Uganda Communications Commission Public relations, Ms. Rebecca Mukitte in an interview revealed that the body that regulates broadcasting has failed to control what Ugandans post on their social media handles.

“We cannot guide each and everyone of them using their phones wherever they are. The commission has failed to regulate whatever is released on social media and no country has been successful when it came to that,” Ms. Rebecca said.

Moses Makumbi from the Ministry of Ethics and Integrity in a phone call interview revealed that they sent out a caution to UCC advising them to take down such music.

“We have received complaints regarding some music videos released by artists painting a bad picture morally and we have written to UCC to take action and take the videos down,” he said.
