Celebrated band musician, Mesach Ssemakula had blamed the high levels of depression among Ugandan artists on the fans.
The industry has had a number of great artists whose lives and careers have gone down the drain because of different struggles and hardships.
’These days have a tendency of attacking artists without any valid reason. Just because they don’t agree with what they have to say,” he said.
Ssemakula also attributes the challenges to stress that comes with not being appreciated enough for their hard work and the effort that they put into making the music.
He gave an example of singer Brown Sugar and her now trending song ‘Good Lover (My Mwami)’ which she released in 2018 for her then lover, also music promoter, Sipapa.
The couple may have bitterly split up, but the song is now trending, six years later, all thanks to TikTok.
“Brown Sugar has a lot of great music and she looks good but people had never appreciated her music. Now that she had given up on music and opted to do other things with her life, people are digging out her old songs, claiming she sings well. This can easily drive artists into depression,” Mesach said in an interview
