Uganda Receives Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine from the Egyptian Government

In a significant stride towards safeguarding its agricultural sector, Uganda has recently received a crucial contribution from the Egyptian government in the form of a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine, of 3million doses today at Entebbe International Airport.

This milestone, facilitated by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, marks a collaborative effort between nations to combat a persistent threat to livestock health and economic stability.

He was accompanied by the minister of Agriculture, Animal industry and fisheries Hon Frank Tumwebaze.

Foot and Mouth Disease is a highly contagious viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats. Its impact extends beyond animal health, posing significant economic burdens due to reduced milk production, loss of meat, and restrictions on international trade of livestock products.

For Uganda, where agriculture serves as the backbone of the economy and a primary livelihood for a significant portion of the population, the threat of FMD looms large. Outbreaks of the disease can cause devastating consequences, affecting not only farmers and herders but also the broader economy.

With this Crucial Donation from the Egyptian Government, CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has played a pivotal role in strengthening Uganda’s agricultural defenses. His efforts reflect a commitment to national development and the well-being of Ugandan communities reliant on agriculture for their sustenance and prosperity.
